Jodi Washychyn
Graphic Designer
My name is Jodi Washychyn, I’ve been a graphic designer here for almost a year. I love that my work touches so many areas. There’s the website, brochures, signage, billboards, even interior design! There’s a lot of misconceptions about this kind of work, some people think it’s just coloring all day. But there’s a lot of strategy and thought that has to be combined with creativity to get the appropriate feeling across.
Most of my likes and hobbies center around creativity. I love the TV show Project Runway, and I’m always putting together new looks and outfits for my friends. I guess I’m sort of their unofficial stylist. My boyfriend and I love to cook and create new things - we just recently finished a gingerbread house contest. For the past 11 years I have hosted an Oscar party where my friends and I create dishes for movies/actors that are nominated for awards. Last year I made Bohemian Raspberry Cupcakes. Looking forward to creating new dishes for February 9th!
Certainly the best thing about coming to work is the team. The people you work with really make the job. In fact, that caring environment was a big draw for me in the first place. Years back, I recommended my Dad get a loan here – it was a credit union and the rates were better than the dealership was offering him. But after opening his account, he came out of that experience raving about how kind and awesome the people were. So later, when I saw this job posted, I thought I’d love to work at a place where people are as kind and genuine as my Dad was describing. And it’s funny because he was right. I’ve never worked at a place where the people are so welcoming and just make you feel like part of the family.

Director Loan Product & Portfolio Services

I’ve been working at Cal Coast for about nine years and I can honestly say that it’s been my favorite place to work. I truly believe I have best team of anywhere I’ve lived, both in Russia and here in the States. Each of them is great and brings something unique to the department.
We primarily do lending analytics. It’s sort of a research and development team. Among other things, we research new loan types that are currently popular in the market and pilot new lending products or procedures.
I’m originally from Moscow - I attended the university there, studying finance. I met my husband there who was from Ukraine studying to become a physicist. It’s funny because when the Soviet Union collapsed, overnight he and I became foreigners to each other because we were effectively from two different countries.
I first visited the States on a U.S. congressional scholarship for former Soviet Union students. I studied in Illinois where a friend told me about this fantasy place called San Diego where the weather was good all year long. I didn’t believe her, but after I graduated and just by coincidence, my husband got a job working in San Diego.
I've never really minded working in the background and I really enjoy what I do. I love to play table tennis and it’s a big dream of mine to be able to beat our CEO in a match.
